Spartans pull off a cup shock

Division 4 strugglers Ashford Spartans pulled off the shock of the round in the Sheber Trophy in the Ashford & District Sunday Football League.

They won 3-1 at Aldington Reserves, who are going well in the division above them. Ben Hearnden and Paul Hunt put Spartans two up before Kevin Ruane pulled one back for the hosts, only for Liam Edmonds to wrap it up for Spartans.

Brabourne also caused a surprise when they won 3-1 at home to high-flying Ashford Cavaliers Reserves. Matt Gomez put Cavaliers ahead before Rob Tanner, with a brace, and Nick Hickmott scored the goals that put Brabourne into the last 16.

The only game played in the Premier Division saw leaders Troggs win 7-4 against Bliby, thanks to four-goal Adam Roffey and Matt Dyke, who hit a hat-trick. Richard Boorman, Joe Valler and Paul Burt (2) scored for Bliby.
