Lord Lieutenant praises Chatham dockyard fightback

Medway has been praised for the way the community fought back after the closure of Chatham Dockyard 25 years ago.

It was, says Kent’s Lord Lieutenant Allan Willett, a “prime example” of people refusing to accept defeat.

Mr Willett was speaking at his annual civic service, which this year took place in Rochester Cathedral.
