Sparkling start to season of goodwill

With Christmas just around the corner, the people of Medway have been getting into the seasonal spirit.

More festive lights were switched on in town centres over the weekend.

On Friday, it was Gillingham’s turn. The display was turned on by the Mayor of Medway Cllr David Carr, with special guest Peppa Pig, at Smiths Square in the High Street.

Activities including carol singing and a visit from Father Christmas.

Cllr Carr also joined forces with young baritone Matthew Crane, jazz musician Donn Barcott and Santa to switch on the Rochester lights on Saturday afternoon.

Street entertainment included performances from the Medway Lion Dance Team and the Medway Baton Twirlers.

Children’s favourite Fifi switched on Strood’s lights at Friary Place, the same day.

The first of Medway’s Christmas lights went on in Chatham town centre last Thursday.

The last of Medway’s Christmas lights will be switched on this Friday in Rainham Shopping Centre.

Harry and his Bucket Full of Dinosaurs will be helping the Mayor of Medway to flick the switch at 5pm.
