Police appeal for information after woman followed and attacked in Luton Road and New Road, Chatham

A man has appeared in court after a woman was allegedly followed and assaulted twice in the early hours of the morning.

The victim is believed to have been followed by an unknown man while walking along Luton Road, Chatham at around 5am on April 9.

She was heading towards Luton Arches when the suspect approached and then assaulted her, before walking away when she began shouting for help.

The woman then continued into New Road and reached the junction with Otway Terrace when it is alleged the same man followed and attacked her again.

However, the suspect left the scene for a second time and headed towards Chatham town centre when members of the public began shouting at him.

The victim suffered a leg injury.

An investigation was started and, yesterday (Thursday), a man was arrested and taken into custody.

Nathan Brumbagh, of no fixed address, was later charged with attempted wounding with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, stalking and possession of cannabis.

The 42-year-old appeared before Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court. He was remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, May 31.

Detectives are appealing to anyone who witnessed the assaults in Luton Road or New Road to contact the appeal line.

Drivers with dashcam and residents or businesses with private CCTV are also asked to check for relevant footage.
