The Jim Gray Memorial Day coming to Sheerness East Working Men's Club

Sheerness East Working Men’s Club stages a fun-filled fundraiser tomorrow (Sunday).

The Jim Gray Memorial Day features a football and darts tournament, followed by live music and an evening disco.

Now in its fourth year, it is in memory of Jim, a former Sheerness East football coach who died in 2014 from cancer, aged 52.

Proceeds will be donated to AMMF, a charity raising awareness of cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer that occurs in the bile duct.

Three previous Sheerness East fundraisers have collected nearly £20,000 for the fund.

Organiser John Munday said: “Jim was my best friend and this day is a way of keeping his memory alive and making lots of money for a charity doing so much good work to research this rare disease.

“Jim loved his football and music, which are the day’s main highlights, but we’ve plenty of other stuff going on.”

The day kicks off with a football tournament (entry £10), starting at 10am and features a mix of youth and veteran teams.

The action then moves inside, where a pairs darts contest is being held (entry £10 per pair).

For children, there’s a bouncy castle and plenty of hot and cold snacks and drinks on offer.

DJs Mark Rendall, Grantley Clement and Paul Wilson will be supplying tunes soulful and funky, classic and cool for a disco between 7pm and midnight (tickets £5).

Support will be provided by a band. A raffle and charity auction, which includes an array of signed sporting and celebrity memorabilia, will also be held.
